Five Times and Counting

You can see the progression below--from the first draft through successive revisions. I'm getting closer (I think), but I'm missing it somewhere. Comments?

  1. I'm not exactly sure. I copied the photo & one drawing into the computer and opened them side by side to study. It appears to be a problem with measurements & proportion. The eyes in the photo & drawing are approx the same size but the nose, mouth, and chin are larger in the drawing. And the hair is much larger. Try printing out a b&w of the photo in a larger size--or zoom on a copier. Then sketch at the same size as the photo and see what happens. Or draw a grid on tracing paper and lay it over the photo and then a light grid on your drawing paper and use the grid lines to help you get the proportions exactly right. Grid can be square lines or pie shaped--useful tool when sizes are critical.

  2. Also, keep in mind that she is fair skinned with light eyes and light hair and try to suggest that with your pencil.
