Hello everybody. How is it going just got done putting mulch around my fish pond, I got the cedar kind. Looks nice. Planted two upside down tomatoes, hopefully they will grow for me. All the early stuff in the garden is up except my potatoes. Planning on planting the rest of the seeds this next week and the plants at the end of the month. I have around 600 plants started in my green house. It works so nice. Hope you all have a great week. Love you all, Rose

  1. You didn't argue with Bob about the mulch, did you? I thought that I might start some of those upside down tomatoes, but never got my rountuit. I do have three empty joint compound buckets, though, which will work quite well. When we lived in Westfield, Cindy went to the local greenhouse for tomato seedlings and came back with seventy-two. Half that many would have been more than enough. We gave away tomatoes as fast as we could.

Happy growing season to you, Rose.

  5. As the name implies, they grow in a pot sort of like a hanging basket...that's not a real good description, but the best I can muster at the moment.

  6. I used a five gallon bucket, had Bob drill a 2 inch hole in the bottom, laid a old wash cloth with a small hole in the bottom of that took a 10 inch tomato plant and stuck the roots up through the bottom of the pail and through the wash cloth, then layered dirt to the top of the bucket and hung it up. It is growing good so far.

  7. So.......what's the point? Do you get more tomatoes? Bigger? Better?

  8. I think it's meant to be a space saver. The vine grows straight down due to gravity, so the only limit is how high you hang the bucket. Also, there is no rot due to the fruit laying on the ground. Everything has good air circulation. No staking, easy access.

I've almost talked myself into it. Maybe I'll give it a shot.

Rose, why did you use an old wash cloth?

  9. I used the old wash cloth to keep the dirt and the roots in the pail. I put a small hole in the middle and stuck the tomatoe threw it, worked will.tried the coffee filter I did not like that. Good luck Love you all Rose
